The municipality Sør-Odal in the county of Hedmark, Norway, is a rural community situated around the southern side of the lake Storsjøen. Sør-Odal shares a border with the municipalities of Eidskog, Kongsvinger, Nord-Odal, Våler, Åsnes, and Grue. The terrain is dominated by rolling hills, lakes, and evergreen forests.
The economy is based on a mix of manufacturing, farming and services. Skarnes has a train connection to Oslo.
