Robin
|
The given name Robin was originally a diminutive of Robert, derived from Rob and the diminutive Old French suffix -in. It is nowadays used as an independent name. The alternative spellings of Robyn or Robbin are sometimes used. Although in England it is generally regarded as a masculine name, it is sometimes given to infant girls. In the U.S., it is more popular as a feminine name than a masculine one -- during the 1990s, for example, it was the 393rd most popular name given to girls and the 709th most popular given to boys.
