Robert Schwarz Strauss (born September 19, 1918 in Lockhart, Texas) was a U.S. diplomat and political figure. He served as the chairman of the Democratic National Committee between 1972 and 1977. He served as the last U.S. ambassador to the Soviet Union in 1991 and served as the U.S. ambassador to Russia from 1991 until 1993. He is a founding partner of the law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.
