Raptor heavy fighter
|
The (fictional) A-14D Raptor is a heavy attack starfighter in the Wing Commander universe. The Raptor has the heaviest weapons loadout in the game but its handling is somewhat slower than the lighter Scimitar, Hornet and Rapier II. The Raptor has a heavy but short-ranged punch with two mass drivers, two neutron guns and an impressive array of seven missiles (three Dart DF, two Javelin HS and two Spiculum IR) and one heavy space mine1. The Raptor can be equipped with a jump drive for interstellar travel2.
The Raptor was already in use as of the late 2630s, seeing action in the Enyo Engagement3. The Landreich continued to use the fighter well into the 2670s4.
In Super Wing Commander, the Raptor was redesigned as a broad-winged fighter with a frontal cockpit. This design was later used in Privateer and Armada as the Gladius.
