Queensbury, New York

Queensbury is a town located in Warren County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 25,441. The town is named in honor of Princess Charlotte, the consort of George III.
The Town of Queensbury is one of the oldest in the county. Queensbury is located in the southwestern part of the county.

History
Major efforts at settlement began with the Queensbury Patent in 1762, which encouraged Quaker settlers to move into the area the next year. The Quakers left during the Revolutionary War, but returned in 1783 when hostilities ended in the area.
Geography
The south town line is the border of Saratoga County, New York, and the east town line is the border of Washington County, New York. The south town line is partly defined by the Hudson River.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 167.9 km² (64.8 mi²). 163.2 km² (63.0 mi²) of it is land and 4.7 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.78% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 25,441 people, 9,948 households, and 7,162 families residing in the town. The population density is 155.9/km² (403.8/mi²). There are 11,223 housing units at an average density of 68.8/km² (178.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.54% White, 0.55% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.71% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 1.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 9,948 households out of which 34.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.1% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.0% are non-families. 22.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 2.97.
In the town the population is spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.4 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $47,225, and the median income for a family is $54,880. Males have a median income of $39,260 versus $25,036 for females. The per capita income for the town is $24,096. 5.0% of the population and 3.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.4% of those under the age of 18 and 2.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

- Lake Sunnyside -- A hamlet west of Queensbury village, and a small lake southeast of the hamlet of Lake Sunnyside.
- Oneida Corners -- A location between Queensbury village and Lake Sunnyside.
- Queensbury -- The hamlet of Queensbury, located in the northeast part of the town.
- Paradise Beach -- A hamlet south of Glen Lake.
- Warren County Airport -- An airport in the northeast part of the town.
- West Glen Falls -- A hamlet in the southwest part of the town bordering the City of Glens Falls on its west side and can be considered a suburb of the city.
