Pocola is a town located in Le Flore County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,994.
Geography
Pocola is located at 35°15'29" North, 94°28'26" West (35.257983, -94.473959)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 79.0 km² (30.5 mi²). 78.5 km² (30.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.69% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,994 people, 1,508 households, and 1,165 families residing in the town. The population density is 50.9/km² (131.9/mi²). There are 1,598 housing units at an average density of 20.4/km² (52.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 86.35% White, 3.33% African American, 5.16% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.45% from other races, and 4.43% from two or more races. 1.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,508 households out of which 35.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.8% are married couples living together, 12.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.7% are non-families. 19.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 2.98.
