Petrus van der Aa

Petrus van der Aa, (*1530, Leuven, † 1594) also called Vanderanus was a Flemish jurist. His father, Johann van der Aa, originated from a well-known Flemish family of patricians, which had settled in Leuven, Mechelen and Antwerpen.
Petrus studied in his hometown, and made his Doctor iuris utriusque in 1559. Three years later he was given a professorship in the same town, when his precursor Johannes Tack was called to Douay, France.
His biographers disagree on some events in his further life. Allegedly, he may have taught himself in Douay. In the year 1565 or 1569 he entered the Sovereign Council of Brabant. He became president of the Higher Regional Court of Luxembourg and Chiny, which is dated to the year 1574. It is unclear whether he had been vice-president of the Court before this. Petrus remained in this charge until his death in 1594.
Petrus van der Aa acquired the title eques auratus (Golden Knight) on October 30, 1583.
