Perry Township is a township in Shiawassee County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 4,438.
The city of Perry is located within the township, but is politically independent.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 82.6 km² (31.9 mi²). 82.5 km² (31.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.19% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,438 people, 1,568 households, and 1,221 families residing in the township. The population density is 53.8/km² (139.4/mi²). There are 1,664 housing units at an average density of 20.2/km² (52.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.30% White, 0.29% African American, 0.43% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.23% from other races, and 1.46% from two or more races. 1.28% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,568 households out of which 42.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.9% are married couples living together, 10.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.1% are non-families. 16.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.83 and the average family size is 3.16.
In the township the population is spread out with 30.2% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 7.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.8 males.
