Pearl Beach, Michigan

There is another unincorporated community named Pearl Beach in Ovid Township in Branch County.

Pearl Beach is an unincorporated community located in St. Clair County, Michigan. It is a Census-designated place (CDP) used for statistical purposes. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 3,224.

The CDP includes both Pearl Beach and Pointe aux Tremble, another unincorporated community just east of Pearl Beach. The CDP consists of a narrow strip along the north side of the North Channel of the St. Clair River from the western border of Algonac to the easternmost point of land where the North Channel flows into Anchor Bay.

Michigan State Highway 29 runs through the area, following the contour of the North Channel.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 8.0 km² (3.1 mi²). 5.5 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is land and 2.5 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 30.84% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,224 people, 1,395 households, and 980 families residing in the community. The population density is 584.4/km² (1,514.7/mi²). There are 1,560 housing units at an average density of 282.8/km² (732.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 98.17% White, 0.00% African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races. 0.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,395 households out of which 20.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.9% are married couples living together, 4.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% are non-families. 24.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.76.

In the community the population is spread out with 17.4% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 36.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 46 years. For every 100 females there are 106.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.7 males.

The median income for a household in the community is $55,186, and the median income for a family is $68,583. Males have a median income of $58,542 versus $28,811 for females. The per capita income for the community is $32,320. 3.2% of the population and 0.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.9% of those under the age of 18 and 5.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
