Ovid Township is a township located in Branch County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 2,432.
There are no incorporated municipalities in the primarily agricultural township. There are settlements in several unincorporated communities:
- Crystal Beach is at Template:Coor dms. The FIPS place code is 19120.
- Lockwood is at Template:Coor dms. The FIPS place code is 49065. The elevation is 1006 feet above sea level.
- Pearl Beach is at Template:Coor dms. The FIPS place code is 63180.
- Sans Souci Beach is at Template:Coor dms. The FIPS place code is 71620.
There is also an unnamed settlement at at Template:Coor dms between Lake of the Woods and Bingham Lake, about two miles northeast of Bethel.
Geography
The township is dominated by lakes, primarily Coldwater Lake as well as the smaller Lake of the Woods and several others. All drain into the Coldwater River.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 93.7 km² (36.2 mi²). 86.1 km² (33.3 mi²) of it is land and 7.6 km² (2.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.07% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,432 people, 1,026 households, and 738 families residing in the township. The population density is 28.2/km² (73.1/mi²). There are 1,889 housing units at an average density of 21.9/km² (56.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 98.11% White, 0.00% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 1.07% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,026 households out of which 25.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.9% are married couples living together, 5.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.0% are non-families. 23.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.77.
In the township the population is spread out with 20.9% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 30.6% from 45 to 64, and 17.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 105.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.6 males.
The median income for a household in the township is $44,593, and the median income for a family is $49,712. Males have a median income of $36,410 versus $23,382 for females. The per capita income for the township is $21,942. 3.1% of the population and 3.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.3% of those under the age of 18 and 5.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
