Pau Claris i Casademunt (1586–1641, Barcelona) was a politician and ecclesiastic from Catalonia. His family, with strong tradition in laws, was from Berga. He got a PhD degree in Canonical and Civil Rights. He became canon in La Seu d'Urgell in 1612; he was well-known because he defended the ecclesiastical privileges. He took part in Barcelona's courts in 1626, where he joined Enric d'Alemany (from Vic) against the King's demand of 16000 soldiers for the war.
In 1627, he moved again to Barcelona and became elected representative of his group in the courts (1632), where he defended the economical rights of his church (he was against the King's intention of collecting taxes from clergymen). He was involved in this cause for a long time.
In July of 1638, and because of the deterioration of the political situation, he was elected President of the Generalitat for the period 1638–1641.
