Paoli is a town located in Orange County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,844. The city is the county seat of Orange CountyTemplate:GR.

Geography
Paoli is located at 38°33'28" North, 86°28'9" West (38.557681, -86.469209)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.8 km² (3.8 mi²). 9.8 km² (3.8 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,844 people, 1,581 households, and 1,013 families residing in the town. The population density is 392.6/km² (1,016.0/mi²). There are 1,725 housing units at an average density of 176.2/km² (455.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.34% White, 0.21% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 0.70% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,581 households out of which 31.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.7% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% are non-families. 32.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.90.
In the town the population is spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 18.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $26,962, and the median income for a family is $34,412. Males have a median income of $28,566 versus $20,110 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,313. 15.1% of the population and 12.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.2% of those under the age of 18 and 13.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Tourism and Recreation
Paoli's primary form of tourism is through Paoli Peaks [1] (http://www.paolipeaks.com), a local ski resort. Operated solely during the winter months, Paoli Peaks provides temporary local jobs to the town as well as bringing in numerous visitors from various areas to come ski on its slopes.
