Owosso Township is a township located in Shiawassee County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 4,670.
Communities
- The city of Owosso is located on the east side of the township.
- Burton is an unincorporated community along S. Baldwin Road which separated Owosso Township from adjacent Middlebury Township. It is at Template:Coor dms about 4.5 miles west of the city of Owosso.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 83.9 km² (32.4 mi²). 83.8 km² (32.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.09% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,670 people, 1,816 households, and 1,334 families residing in the township. The population density is 55.7/km² (144.3/mi²). There are 1,898 housing units at an average density of 22.6/km² (58.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.73% White, 0.15% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. 1.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,816 households out of which 31.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.7% are married couples living together, 7.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.5% are non-families. 22.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 2.99.
In the township the population is spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 26.0% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.3 males.
The median income for a household in the township is $41,500, and the median income for a family is $46,863. Males have a median income of $40,778 versus $21,560 for females.
