Otsego is a city in Allegan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,933. The city is within Otsego Township, but is politically independent.
Otsego is situated on Michigan State Highway 89 about three miles west of Plainwell and U.S. Highway 131. It is about nine miles southeast of Allegan and the Kalamazoo River flows east to west through the city.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.4 km² (2.1 mi²). 5.2 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.86% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,933 people, 1,553 households, and 1,062 families residing in the city. The population density is 759.3/km² (1,971.2/mi²). There are 1,632 housing units at an average density of 315.1/km² (817.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.10% White, 0.31% African American, 0.56% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.33% from other races, and 1.32% from two or more races. 1.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,553 households out of which 36.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.6% are married couples living together, 14.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.6% are non-families. 26.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.00.
In the city the population is spread out with 28.0% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 92.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $37,525, and the median income for a family is $44,308. Males have a median income of $36,429 versus $25,054 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,521. 6.9% of the population and 4.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.9% of those under the age of 18 and 9.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
