Oak Brook, Illinois

Oak Brook is a suburb of Chicago located in DuPage County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 8,702. Oak Brook hosts the world headquarters of McDonald's Corporation, which include the company's principal training facility, Hamburger University. It also includes the large regional shopping center known as Oak Brook Mall. The Lions Club International is located in Oak Brook which has members from 196 nations.

Geography

Oak Brook is located at 41°50'24" North, 87°57'11" West (41.84018, -87.953079)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 21.4 km² (8.3 mi²). 21.1 km² (8.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.21% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 8,702 people, 3,124 households, and 2,589 families residing in the village. The population density is 411.7/km² (1,066.4/mi²). There are 3,258 housing units at an average density of 154.2/km² (399.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 76.60% White, 1.37% African American, 0.00% Native American, 20.11% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 1.69% from two or more races. 2.39% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,124 households out of which 26.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.6% are married couples living together, 4.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.1% are non-families. 15.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.04.

In the village the population is spread out with 19.6% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 15.3% from 25 to 44, 36.4% from 45 to 64, and 21.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 50 years. For every 100 females there are 91.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.5 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $166,537, and the median income for a family is $226,718. Males have a median income of $231,872 versus $90,128 for females. The per capita income for the village is $106,668. 2.1% of the population and 0.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.7% of those under the age of 18 and 0.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
