Novgorod Oblast

Novgorod Oblast (Russian: Новгоро́дская о́бласть) is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). It is located in the Northwestern Federal District, between Moscow and Saint Petersburg. The administrative center is the city of Novgorod. Other important cities are: Borovichi, Staraya Russa, Valdai, Chudovo.
Area 53,895 km². Population is estimated at 683,795 in 2004, down from about 753,000 in 1989.

Geography
Novgorod Oblast borders Leningrad Oblast (NW,N), Vologda Oblast (E), Tver Oblast (SE,S) and Pskov Oblast (SW).
The western part is a lowland around the Lake Ilmen, while the eastern part is highland (a part of the Valdai Hills). The highest point is mount Ryzhokha (296 m).
Time zone
Novgorod Oblast is located in the Moscow Time Zone (MSK/MSD). UTC offset is +0300 (MSK)/+0400 (MSD).
