Yuelu Mountain

The Mount Yuelu (S.Chinese:岳麓山, T.Chinese:嶽麓山, pinyin: yuè lǔ shān) is located on the west bank of Xiang River in Changsha of Hunan, China. Its main peak Yunlu is 300 meters high.

There are lots of scenic spots in the Mountain such as Qingfeng gorge, Aiwan Pavilion, Lushan Temple, Yunlu Palace, White Crane Spring and Flying Stone. Qingfeng Gorge lies in the low place Between Yuelu Academy and Lushan Temple, there are Aiwan Pavilion, one of four famous pavilions in the ancient China, Sheli Tower, Tombs of Huang Xing (Huang Hsing) and Cai E (Tsai E).

  • Aiwan Pavilion lies in Qingfeng Gorge and was built in A.D.1792. Its original name is Red Leaf Pavilion and later according to the poem written by Du Mu, the name was changed. Mao Zedong once played and studied here in the course of study period and the remaining tablet was written by Mao Zedong in the 1950s. Aiwan Pavilion was supported by four red poles. There is a tablet with the poem, "Qinyuanchun, Changsha" written by Mao Zedong.
  • Lushan Temple is lies in the hillside of the mountain, It was built in A.D.268 and later was destroyed and repaired for several times, it was rebuilt in 1980s.
  • Yunlu Palace is a Taoist place, the history of activities for Taoism in Yuelushan Mountain is quite long. And Yunlu Palace was built in A.D.1478, Yuelushan has been as the activity center of Taoism since then.
  • Flying Clock and Flying Stone are also the famous attractions in Yuelushan Mountain. Flying Clock is hanging in a ginkgo near Yunlu Palace. Flying Stone lied under Flying Clock. 
  • King Yu Tablet on the Tablet there was carved an article with 77 Chinese characters and it is difficult to distinguish. Under the Tablet it is Yuji Brook. Yu (Xia Yu) was the hero who treated flood in the saying.
