Mount Saint Mary's University is a private, liberal arts, Catholic university located on a 1,400 acre (5.7 km²) campus in Emmitsburg, Maryland. It was founded in 1808 and is the oldest independent Catholic college in the United States. It has approximately 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students. 63% of the undergraduates come from Maryland and 34% from other Mid-Atlantic States, while 27 total states are represented. The school became co-educational in 1977. In addition to its undergraduate school, the university includes five graduate programs.
Undergraduate annual tuition is $21,430, and total expenses are $29,320. Approximately 90% of students receive some sort of financial aid.
On June 7, 2004 Mount Saint Mary's College and Seminary changed its official name to Mount Saint Mary's University.
