Mother's Milk is the Red Hot Chili Peppers' fourth album. It was released on August 22, 1989.
Videos were made to accompany "Knock Me Down" and "Higher Ground" (for channels such as MTV and VH1), the opening track. Those two songs has been a popular choice for club DJs playing the Red Hot Chili Peppers, because of its popularity, familiarity and suitability, given the length and style of most of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' other songs.
Before this album was released, the previous guitarist Hillel Slovak passed away on June 25, 1988 and drummer Jack Irons left the band. Chad Smith (drums) and John Frusciante (guitar) replaced them. Originally the album was planned as The rockin' Freakapotamus, but after Hillels death the recordings were stopped. Now The rockin' freakapotamus is the name of the Red Hot Chili Peppers- Fanclub
Mother's Milk peaked at #52 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart.
