Name Origin
The name "Mewtwo" originates from Mew, the Pokémon from whom its genes originated. The "-two" suffix refers to Mewtwo being Mew's clone and "upgrade".
Battle tactics
Mewtwo, arguably one of the strongest Pokémon of all, is a favorite among trainers. It can learn many moves, including Psychic, Ice Beam, Rest, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, and Hyper Beam. It is notable for having the highest special attacking stat.
Information
From the video games' Pokédexes: Mewtwo was created by a scientist after years of horrific gene splicing and DNA engineering experiments. Because its battle abilities were raised to the ultimate level, it thinks only of defeating its foes. It usually remains motionless to conserve energy, so that it may unleash its full power in battle. Even though the scientific power of humans created this Pokémon's body, they failed to endow Mewtwo with a compassionate heart.
Mewtwo can be obtained only after defeating the Elite Four and returning to the Cerulean Cave. Considering Mewtwo's power, it is usually recommended that the player save the Master Ball for capturing it.
In Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow, the burned-out building where the player finds the key to the Cinnabar Island Gym has several diaries scattered about which tell the story of Mewtwo. Something that seems to have been either forgotten or ignored officially is that they say that Mew gave birth to Mewtwo and that it is its child, rather than the official continuity which says that Mewtwo is Mew's clone.

Mew and Mewtwo
In the anime, Mewtwo was genetically engineered by scientists under Team Rocket's leader, Giovanni, who desired to have the ultimate Pokemon. Mewtwo was created using DNA from the 151st Pokemon, Mew. When Mewtwo became aware that it was no more than Mew's shadow, it destroyed the lab it was created in. Giovanni then offered to help him focus his power, and he did. But when he learnt he was no more than a puppet, he devastated Team Rocket's base and escaped. Mewtwo then rebuilt the island lab where it was "born" and lured Pokémon trainers to it with the intention of creating genetically enhanced clones of the trainer's Pokémon as part of a larger revenge plan against humanity. Mewtwo had a change of heart, however, as Ash Ketchum sacrificed himself to stop a duel between Mewtwo and Mew. Afterward, Mewtwo wiped the trainers' memory of the incident, and took itself and the clones into seclusion in the Johto region. But during all this time, Giovanni still sought Mewtwo, which later led to a confrontation between Mewtwo, Giovanni, and Ash and his friends.
