Almost certainly a hoax. See [1] (http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/13766). - Hephaestos|§ 04:39, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)

  • Looks like one to me. Delete -- Cyrius | Talk 04:56, Apr 2, 2004 (UTC)
  • I asked a Russian friend of mine, he said it's for real. DO'Neil 08:13, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
    • I love the concept actually, (big fan of camp) but really wish we had a written source. - Hephaestos|§ 08:14, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep unless we find much better evidence for deletion. It sounds credible to me. Agree that better verification would be good, but IMO even a complete lack of it is not in itself a case for deletion, and we do now have some verification in this case. Andrewa 13:10, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
    • Delete. I think the evidence has now clearly swung around to hoax. Thanks to all those who provided it. Andrewa 10:55, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep, of course. The article takes everything from this source (http://www.stim.com/Stim-x/0996September/Automedia/soviet.html), so unless that's some kind of joke site, I'm inclined to believe the show did exist. Delete, since Mikkalai says it's false. Everyking 13:48, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
    • Comment: And that link was always on the page, D'oh, thanks for pointing that out, I should have followed it before. So we now have two independent verifications, quite adequate IMO. This discussion should go to the talk page assuming the article is kept, to document the second verification source. Andrewa 15:14, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
    • Comment: It doesn't have to be a joke site per se, they might have been taken in by a hoax too. Note especially the comments about the photograph towards the bottom of the article, I agree it looks like a Photoshop job. - Hephaestos|§ 17:36, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
      • Comment: It's quite true that serious sites, including Wikipedia, fall for hoaxes from time to time. But this cuts both ways. The attempts to discredit the story could also be a hoax, seriously believed. Andrewa 18:10, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
    • The linked-to stim.com (http://www.stim.com/Stim-x/0996September/Automedia/soviet.html) page above defintely looks like a joke site to me. Even if it was an old TV show, one would expect echos of it somewhere. Anyone knows how to spell the title in Cyrillic? Or what would be the transliteration in German or French?Jorge Stolfi 21:18, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • Still looks hoaxy to me, but not enough to outright delete -- Cyrius | Talk 15:28, Apr 2, 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. Very likely a hoax. Only 1 website about it, and a blogpost (http://216.239.39.104/search?q=cache:muAlejB6wNkJ:www.metafilter.com/mefi/13766+Kosmicheskaya+Militsiya&hl=en&ie=UTF-8) with people talking about how that 1 website is obviously a hoax. Maximus Rex 15:49, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep, Although I made the wikipage, I believe my vote counts for something, I say if DO'Neil has sources saying it existed, then that should be good enough. The majority of the soviet television records only exist from the late 1980's and such it would be near impossible to find much about anything. Everyone is too eager to remove this... --209.226.132.148 20:57, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Mind you I will be the first to admit I was wrong if it is indeed proven a fake. --209.226.132.148 20:57, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)

  • I think the arguments to keep have swayed my vote. - Hephaestos|§ 22:53, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. Hoax. There was no such thing. I am from these times. There were only 3 TV channels at these times, and no way I would've missed this. not to say that the idea of a soap opera serials was completely out of place at these times there. Mikkalai 07:58, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC)
    • I was hoping you would give your input, Mikkalai I would say has a definite sway in this debate... User:JessPKC --206.172.193.140 01:13, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I would like to point out that User:JessPKC, who wrote this page, also wrote Trenton Ray a hoax article about a non-existent Mexican restaurant. The deletion debate for that page can be seen at Talk:Trenton_Ray. Maximus Rex 01:21, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)

    • and I would like to point out that this has nothing to do with Trenton Ray, I made this article based on the linked article that I found on the internet. So real or not, that has nothing to do with this article. Please be more observant in the future. User:JessPKC--206.172.193.140 09:21, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)
      • Second strike :-) I hope in future you will be more diligent when putting data from internet here, especially when it looks "hot". Mikkalai 16:44, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • Given new evidence, my vote goes back to delete. -- Cyrius|&#9998 02:24, Apr 5, 2004 (UTC)
  • I change my vote to delete. My friend was only little during Brezhnev's reign (when the show supposedly aired) and he could have been mistaken. Mikkalai's input swings the debate around. DO'Neil 10:36, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)
