Marzipan is a character in the Homestar Runner series of animated cartoons. The only real female in the series, she is Homestar Runner's girlfriend, and is named after the confection marzipan.

She is a folk singer, pacifist, vegetarian, and loves horses – and resembles a mop wearing a skirt. Strong Bad likens her to "a dirty hippie - without the dirt". Her acoustic guitar "Carol" is a prized possession.

Homestar doesn't seem to really understand his relationship with her and as a result, Marzipan is occasionally upset by Homestar's ineptitude. Over time, Marzipan has become more independent, and in one cartoon she became so annoyed with Homestar that she announced that she was breaking up with him (although it was apparently rescinded after Strong Bad was found to be at fault).

Marzipan's answering machine is an audio-only feature of the site where the other characters leave awkward or amusing messages. Often they involve Strong Bad posing as someone else as a prank, Homestar apologizing for his most recent blunder, and the occasional message from one of the other male characters who is desparate for female companionship.

Unlike most of the characters in the series, Marzipan is voiced by Missy Palmer and not Matt Chapman. In an interview [1] (http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,59261,00.html), Palmer stated that Marzipan's personality has changed to match her own.

Marzipan was originally envisioned as the King of Town's daughter, but this is no longer really upheld and is not part of the Homestar Runner canon.

Alternate versions

1936

The Marzipan of the 1930s is largely the same as her modern counterpart. Cosmetically, she sports pigtails instead of her current ponytail.

20x6

Futuristic anime-style Marzipan is a radical departure from her current design. Her appearance is essentially Sailor Moon wearing purple, and is the most human of any of the character designs.
