Manistique is a city located in Schoolcraft County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,583. It is the county seat of Schoolcraft County6. The city is located on the north shore of Lake Michigan, at the southwest corner of Manistique Township.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.1 km² (3.5 mi²). 8.3 km² (3.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.14% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,583 people, 1,449 households, and 865 families residing in the city. The population density is 433.7/km² (1,124.0/mi²). There are 1,611 housing units at an average density of 195.0/km² (505.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 87.02% White, 3.74% African American, 5.16% Native American, 0.73% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.28% from other races, and 3.07% from two or more races. 1.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
