According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²). 5.6 km² (2.2 mi²) of it is land and 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 19.33% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 4,082 people, 2,097 households, and 1,052 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 726.3/km² (1,877.7/mi²). There are 5,697 housing units at an average density of 1,013.7/km² (2,620.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 95.88% White, 1.18% African American, 0.59% Native American, 0.73% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 1.22% from two or more races. 3.06% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,097 households out of which 16.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.5% are married couples living together, 7.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 49.8% are non-families. 37.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.95 and the average family size is 2.50.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 13.4% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 33.6% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 104.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 107.1 males.
