Le Roy is a village located in Genesee County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 4,462.
The Village of Le Roy was incorporated in 1957 and lies in the center of the Town of Le Roy.
Geography
Le Roy is located at 42°58'32" North, 77°59'26" West (42.975656, -77.990792)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.
The village is at the intersection of Routes 5 and 19. Oatka Creek flows past the village.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 4,462 people, 1,845 households, and 1,114 families residing in the village. The population density is 638.1/km² (1,654.8/mi²). There are 1,980 housing units at an average density of 283.1/km² (734.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 94.73% White, 2.47% Black or African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 1.61% from two or more races. 0.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,845 households out of which 29.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.1% are married couples living together, 11.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.6% are non-families. 33.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 3.04.
In the village the population is spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 87.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.0 males.
The median income for a household in the village is $33,168, and the median income for a family is $43,594. Males have a median income of $36,740 versus $21,306 for females. The per capita income for the village is $18,565. 7.3% of the population and 6.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.1% of those under the age of 18 and 10.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
