Lander is a city located in Fremont County, Wyoming. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,867. It is the county seat of Fremont CountyTemplate:GR. Lander is located in central Wyoming, along the Popo Agie River. A tourism center that has several dude ranches nearby, it is headquarters to the Wind River Indian Reservation.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.4 km² (4.4 mi²). 11.4 km² (4.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 6,867 people, 2,794 households, and 1,824 families residing in the city. The population density is 599.9/km² (1,554.0/mi²). There are 3,036 housing units at an average density of 265.2/km² (687.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.81% White, 0.15% African American, 5.99% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.70% from other races, and 2.04% from two or more races. 3.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,794 households out of which 30.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% are married couples living together, 10.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% are non-families. 30.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.91.
In the city the population is spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $32,397, and the median income for a family is $41,958. Males have a median income of $30,602 versus $20,916 for females.
