History
Albany County was organized in 1868.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 11,160 km² (4,309 mi²). 11,066 km² (4,273 mi²) of it is land and 93 km² (36 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.84% water.

Natrona County, Wyoming does not border Albany County. Although Albany, Carbon, Converse, and Natrona seem to meet, the four corners are actually off-kilter.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 32,014 people, 13,269 households, and 7,006 families residing in the county. The population density is 3/km² (8/mi²). There are 15,215 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 91.32% White, 1.11% Black or African American, 0.95% Native American, 1.70% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 2.65% from other races, and 2.22% from two or more races. 7.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 13,269 households out of which 23.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.00% are married couples living together, 7.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 47.20% are non-families. 31.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.23 and the average family size is 2.84.
In the county the population is spread out with 18.40% under the age of 18, 28.20% from 18 to 24, 26.10% from 25 to 44, 19.10% from 45 to 64, and 8.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 27 years. For every 100 females there are 106.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 106.40 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $28,790, and the median income for a family is $44,334. Males have a median income of $31,087 versus $22,061 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,706. 21.00% of the population and 10.80% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.70% of those under the age of 18 and 8.80% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
