Lakewood is a village in Chautauqua County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 3,258.
The Village of Lakewood (formerly Lakeview) was incorporated in 1893. The village is located in the northern part of Town of Busti.
Geography
Lakewood is located at 42°6'3" North, 79°19'19" West (42.100929, -79.321919)Template:GR.
Lakeview is at the south end of Chautauqua Lake.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 5.1 km² (2.0 mi²). 5.1 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,258 people, 1,474 households, and 909 families residing in the village. The population density is 638.5/km² (1,656.8/mi²). There are 1,731 housing units at an average density of 339.3/km² (880.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.51% White, 0.71% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.68% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.37% from other races, and 0.68% from two or more races. 0.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,474 households out of which 25.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.5% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.3% are non-families. 34.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 2.84.
In the village the population is spread out with 22.1% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 19.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 88.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.1 males.
