Busti is a town located in Chautauqua County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 7,760.
The Town of Busti, founded in 1823, was named after Paul Busti, an official of the Holland Land Company. The town is located at the south end of Chautauqua Lake, southwest of Jamestown, New York.

Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 123.7 km² (47.8 mi²). 123.7 km² (47.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.02% is water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 7,760 people, 3,210 households, and 2,240 families residing in the town. The population density is 62.7/km² (162.4/mi²). There are 3,876 housing units at an average density of 31.3/km² (81.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.96% White, 0.52% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.44% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. 0.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,210 households out of which 29.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.4% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% are non-families. 26.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.92.
In the town the population is spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 28.0% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $41,450, and the median income for a family is $47,798. Males have a median income of $38,750 versus $26,148 for females. The per capita income for the town is $22,602. 6.2% of the population and 4.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.4% of those under the age of 18 and 4.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

- Ashville -- A hamlet in the northwest part of the town on Route 474.
- Boomertown -- A hamlet south of Ashville on Route 30.
- Busti -- The hamlet of Busti at the junction of Routes 28 and 45 near the center of the town.
- Cottage Park -- A hamlet near the shore of Chautauqua Lake in the northwest part of the town.
- Lakewood- The Village of Lakewood and the location of the town government is on the shore of Chautauqua Lake.
- Shermans Bay -- A hamlet on the shore of Chautauqua Lake.
Additional information about Busti
George Stoneman, who was born in this town in 1822, graduated from West Point and was a major general of cavalry in the Civil War. He later became governor of California.
