Khmelnytskyi Oblast (Хмельницька область, Khmel’nyts’ka oblast’ or Хмельниччина, Khmel'nychchyna in Ukrainian) is an oblast (province) of western Ukraine. Its capital is Khmel'nyts'kyi.
Historically, the province is a part of the Podillya region. The ancient city of Kamianets' (now a raion center within the oblast') has long been the capital of Podillya and one of the most important trade centers of Eastern Europe.
Economy of the province mostly deals with energy industry, transport and agriculture. The oblast' is a historical crossroad of the railway and highway routes connecting Central Europe to Black Sea coast and Russia (with city of Shepetivka being the most important railway junction). "Khmelnyts'ka" nuclear power plant (Ukrainian: Хмельницька АЕС) in the city of Netishyn is the most important industrial company of the province. Notable machinery, armament and chemical industries are also present.
The area of the region is 20,600 km², its population (as of 2004-05-01) is 1.4 million.
