Qatzrin

Qatzrin (קצרין) is the administrative center of the disputed Golan Heights, established in 1977 by the Israeli government. Qatzrin was planned as an urban center that would provide services to the rural communities and military bases in the region. The population of Qatzrin was 6,288 at the end of 2003. Since 1981 it has been under Israeli law, though it is widely viewed internationally as an illegal Israeli settlement.
Education and Culture
The academic campus of Qatzrin, which is currently under construction, is slated to include Ohalo College, the Academic Center, and the Institute for the Study of the Golan Informal Education and Culture. Qatzrin is a major center of tourism in the Golan Heights due to the historical sites it boasts. The ancient Talmudic village of Qasrin (the source of its name) which was destroyed in an earthquake 1300 years ago. The village has a synagogue, partially reconstructed, and foundations of ancient houses. The Museum of Golan Antiquities displays archeological finds uncovered in the Golan Heights.
There are wineries and a mineral water plant in Qatzrin.
