Judd Winick

Judd Winick (born February 12, 1970 on Long Island, New York) is a American cartoonist famous for his appearances on MTV's The Real World: San Francisco, as well his work as a successful comic writer and artist. In 2001, Winick married his Real World co-star Pam Ling. They had been living as a couple since the show in 1994, and had a baby in May of 2005.
Works
An award winning cartoonist, his works include writing for DC Comics' Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Batman, the Outsiders, Marvel Exiles, the syndicated comic strip Frumpy the Clown, his Oni Press book, Adventures of Barry Ween, Boy Genius, and the graphic novel Pedro and Me, chronicling the life and death of Real World co-star and AIDS Educator Pedro Zamora.
Currently considered one of the top writers in main stream comics, he has recently turned his attention to television, as the creator and executive producer of Cartoon Network's series, The Life and Times of Juniper Lee.
Praise and criticism
Winick has courted both controversy and praise. His book Pedro and Me, among many honors, has been given six American Library Association awards, nominated for an Eisner Award, and has been incorporated into school curricula across the country.
In his career as a comics book writer, he has gained media attention for the gay and HIV-positive characters in many of his comic books. Examples being Terry Berg, a young gay teenager in Green Lantern, and the HIV positive Green Arrow sidekick, Speedy.
Terry emerged as a gay character in 2001 in Green Lantern issue No. 137 and in Green Lantern issue No. 154, the story entitled "Hate Crime" gained media recognition when the character Terry was victimized in a homophobic attack. He received three GLAAD awards for his stories — two for Green Lantern and one for Pedro and Me.
In 2004, Judd Winick gained more media recognition in his DC book Green Arrow; when he wrote a story of Green Arrow's sidekick, Mia Dearden (code name: Speedy), testing positive for HIV.
