Jon Llewellyn Kyl (born April 25, 1942, Oakland, Nebraska) is a Republican Senator, representing Arizona.
Jon Kyl went to the University of Arizona, and graduated with honors. His wife is Caryll Collins, and they have two children and four grandchildren. Before entering politics, he was a lawyer with Jennings, Strouss & Salmon in Phoenix, Arizona. His father was John Kyl, a US Representative for Iowa.
He served in the House of Representatives from 1987-1995. He was first elected to the Senate in 1994 and re-elected in 2000.
Kyl is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Finance Committee, Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and Intelligence Committee. He is also chairman of the Steering Committee, as well as chairman of the Committee on Committees.
Some speculation has come up as to whether or not he will be able to maintain his seat in the Senate. In 1994, he faced no serious opposition, and in 2000, he ran without opposition. His seat is up in 2006, and many names have been floating around as to who will be challenging him on the Democratic side.
