Johnsburg is a town located in Warren County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,450. The town is named after John Thurman, an early settler.
The Town of Johnsburg was formed from the Town of Thurman in 1805 and is in the northwest corner of the county. Johnsburg is the largest town in Warren County.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 535.5 km² (206.7 mi²). 529.0 km² (204.2 mi²) of it is land and 6.4 km² (2.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.20% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,450 people, 999 households, and 666 families residing in the town. The population density is 4.6/km² (12.0/mi²). There are 1,714 housing units at an average density of 3.2/km² (8.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.41% White, 0.20% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. 0.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 999 households out of which 28.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.0% are married couples living together, 6.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% are non-families. 27.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
