Janet Lynn Kavandi is an American astronaut and a veteran of three space shuttle missions.
Kavandi earned degrees in chemistry form Missouri Southern State College (bachelor's, 1980), the University of Missouri - Rolla (masters, 1982), and the University of Washington - Seattle (doctorate, 1990). She worked for Boeing during the 1980s on defense projects. She was selected as an astronaut candidate in 1994 and first flew aboard STS-91 in 1998 as a mission specialist and then on STS-99 in 2000. She worked on the robotic manipulator systems for both the shuttle and International Space Station and was part of mission STS-104, an ISS assembly flight.
