- As this highway is a loop of I-10, some think that it would be better as a three-digit Interstate instead of I-12.
- There is a good chance that I-12 will overlap I-10 between Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Houston, Texas in the future, and from Houston, Texas, I-12 will be extended along U.S. 290 to Austin, Texas at Interstate 35.
