Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) is the urban research university campus of Indiana University located in Indianapolis, Indiana. IUPUI offers undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees from both Indiana University and Purdue University.

Academics
IUPUI is home to the Indiana University Medical Center. In this capacity, it hosts research on infectious disease, cancer, and degenerative disorders. It is also home to the Indiana University School of Law Indianapolis, the Indiana University School of Dentistry, the Indiana University School of Nursing, and the Indiana University School of Social Work. The Purdue schools are the Purdue School of Science and the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology. IUPUI gives the broadest range of academic degrees of any campus in Indiana. It also has more students from Indiana than any other campus in the state.
Largely because of the Indiana University School of Medicine, the campus has more sponsored research than either Indiana University Bloomington or Purdue University West Lafayette.
The campus is nationally recognized for its programs for first year students, and its high level of service learning and civic engagement.
The IUPUI University Library is one of the most technologically sophisticated academic libraries in the nation.
Athletics
IUPUI's teams -- the Jaguars -- compete at the Division I level in the Mid-Continent Conference. The Jaguars have earned NCAA Tournament bids in Men's Soccer, Men's Golf, Men's Basketball and Women's Tennis, as well as a Mid-Con Championship in Volleyball. Three athletes have been recognized as Mid-Con Athletes of the Year, with five coaches earning Coach of the Year honors.
IUPUI's athletic teams have also excelled in the classroom. Their women's tennis team has been chosen as an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for three consecutive years. The men's cross country team has been recognized by the United State Cross Country Coaches Association as Academic All-American the past two seasons, while the women’s team earned the same honor from the Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association twice. In 2001-02, the women's basketball team was selected by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association to its Top 25 Honor Roll. In the fall of 2002, the athletic department as a whole was honored by USA Today and the NCAA for having the highest improvement in graduation rate in the country for its category.
The campus is the home of the Indiana University Natatorium, one of the fastest swimming pools in the world.
Campus
The IUPUI campus, built in a former African-American neighborhood, is located just west of downtown near the Indianapolis Zoo, Downtown Canal Walk, and White River State Park. The zip code for the entire campus (excluding the old Herron buildings off 16th St. and Pennsylvania Ave.) is 46203. In 2004, new residence halls, the School of Informatics, and a new Herron School of Art were constructed on campus.

Ralph D. Gray's book IUPUI--the Making of an Urban University (Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 2003) is the best published account of the history of the campus.
Notable Alumni
Alumni include former US Vice President Dan Quayle and the United States Senators Frederick VanNuys, Arthur R. Robinson, Samuel D. Jackson, and Dan Coats as well as Indiana governors Harry G. Leslie and Edgar Whitcomb.
