I thought you were dead!

"I thought you were dead!" and lines similar to it are perhaps the most famous example of B-movie dialogue. It is often heard in formulaic action movies.
This line is noted for often meaning something else other than what it says. It usually doesn't simply mean "I'm glad you're still alive!", as interestingly enough, it is often seen being said rather deadpan to a character to whom they've just been introduced. As a result, it has become a classic line of exposition used to establish that the protagonist has some sort of a reputation as a "bad number".
The cult movie Escape From New York pays homage to this classic line by having every major character greet 'Snake' Plissken (played by Kurt Russell) by mentioning "I heard you were dead!". The running joke is that, as typical, it is never explained how Plissken was so famous or why everyone thought he was dead.
This line could have had its origin in many movies. Many seem to think it may have been the western Big Jake starring John Wayne. The tendency for people meeting Jake for the first time to announce "I thought you were dead!" was the inspiration for the homage in the aforementioned Escape from New York. But this line has cropped up deadpan in every genre from kung fu to science fiction movies.
