Henry Hussey Vivian, 1st Baron Swansea
|
Henry Hussey Vivian, 1st Baron Swansea (1821 - 1894) was a Welsh industrialist.
The son of industrialist and MP John Henry Vivian, Henry Hussey Vivian served as MP for Glamorgan 1857-9 and Swansea 1885-93. He developed a range of by-products from the copper-smelting business founded by his father, and introduced the "sliding scale" of miners' wages after the strike of 1889. It was largely due to his efforts that Swansea became a major industrial centre. He was created a baronet in 1882 and Baron Swansea in 1893.
