Harlech Castle, located in Harlech, Wales, was built as part of Edward I's second campaign in North Wales. It was constructed on a cliff-top close to the sea (which has since receded). Begun in 1283, it took seven years to construct. Like many of the castles in the area, it was designed by James of St George. It was captured by Owen Glendower in 1404.
The castle is famous for inspiring the song "Men of Harlech".
