Band History

Gyroscope started as Gyroscope Sunday in Perth in 1997 with Daniel Sanders on guitar/vocals, Zoran Trivic on guitar/vocals, Brad Campbell on bass/vocals and Rob Nassif on drums.

The band started playing gigs and soon earned support slots for Unwritten Law, Millencolin, Toe to Toe, Reel Big Fish, 28 Days and Jebediah. The band also recorded three independent albums which failed to achieve much success outside Perth punk circles.

In 2001, the band had a six-month hiatus when Rob Nassif spend six months studying in Canada. On his return, the band recorded to the studio and recorded another album on an independent label. Perth's X-Press Magazine said: Gyroscope have returned with a fist full of new anthems that are determined to get noticed. Gyroscope was added to the Perth leg of the Big Day Out. The band was flown to the Metro in Sydney to perform their first gig on the eastside of Australia.

The band signed a deal with Redline Records owned by Jebediah and supported that band on an Australian tour. The Take Time EP in 2002 was released. In October 2002, Juice Magazine named Gyroscope as one of the next big things along with the Vines, Jet and the Datsuns. At the end of 2002, Gyroscope won a WAMI Award for best West Australian punk band.

Gyroscope signed with Festival Mushroom Records at the beginning of 2003. The band released two EP's in 2003 in 2003 Safe Forever and Driving For The Storm/Doctor Doctor and won wide airplay on Triple J radio across Australia. The band also worked as support acts in 2003 in tours for Blink 182, Thursday, The Living End and The Get Up Kids.

The band recorded their major label debut Sound Shattering Sound with Shaun O'Callaghan who had also produced the John Butler Trio. The album was released on June 14, 2004 and debuted in the top 40 of the ARIA album chart on June 21 2004. The band commenced their first headlining tour of Australia in June 2004.
