Gyarados the atrocious Pokemon is water/flying type. Its ability is intimidate, which automatically decreases the foe's attack at the start of each battle. In order to obtain a Gyarados, you can fish with a super rod in Sootopolis City, or you could fish for a Magikarp (which are found almost everywhere) with an old rod and level it up to level 20.
This Pokemon is the fictional evolved form of a Pokémon game character known as Magikarp. In the animated Pokémon series it is a fierce, sea-dwelling Pokémon which is never submissive in battle.
Name Origin
This Pokemon's English name is directly derived from its Japanese name.
Availability
In Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, you can get a sparkling red Gyarados in the Lake of rage.
Gyarados also appears in recent additions to the Pokémon Game Boy Advance games Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. It also appears in previous versions of Pokémon- Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Gold, and Crystal. In one of the Pokemon episodes, Misty comes back with Ash, Brock, May, and Max. They battle a mysterious character who has a Shedinja and two Ninjasks. Later, Misty sends out Gyarados to use flamethrower attack on them.
Strengths / Weaknesses
As a Water type and Flying type Pokémon, Gyarados is offensively strong against Fire, Ground, and Rock types and although it is a flying type, it cannot learn a flying type attack (yet) and defensively weak against Electric and Rock types. Its main weakness is Electricity as Gyarados is both Water and Flying type and takes 4x damage to it.
