Grosse Pointe Township is a township located in Wayne County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 2,743. It is the portion of the village of Grosse Pointe Shores that is in Wayne County, and it is far more common to refer to the village rather than to the township.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 48.1 km² (18.6 mi²). 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and 45.6 km² (17.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 94.73% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,743 people, 1,018 households, and 834 families residing in the township. The population density is 1,069.8/km² (2,781.3/mi²). There are 1,054 housing units at an average density of 411.1/km² (1,068.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 93.95% White, 0.58% African American, 0.18% Native American, 3.97% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.44% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. 1.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,018 households out of which 28.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.6% are married couples living together, 4.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.0% are non-families. 16.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.69 and the average family size is 3.02.
