The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy

The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, created by Maxwell Atoms, is a animated series that currently airs on Cartoon Network in the U.S. The two main plot characters, Billy and Mandy, had won a bet against the Grim Reaper over a sick hamster, forcing him to be their best friend forever. Billy is voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz, while Mandy is voiced by Grey Delisle.

The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy was the first show on CN that viewers had a say in creating. An Internet and call-in event, called the Big Pick was held August 24-25, 2000. The three final choices were The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?, and Longhair and Doubledome. Out of the three, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy won. The first season appeared on CN in 2001.

Originally labelled Grim and Evil, the series was a combination of two shows in one. In each show a segment of Evil Con Carne was put between two Grim cartoons. In 2003, CN decided to give each short their own full length show.

Notes on the Grim Adventures Universe

The GA universe, in addition to regular violation of the laws of physics, also contains a number of historical variations. Abraham Lincoln is President (in addition to being, for a reason never explained, a personal friend of Billy's). Also, the world police organization is not the United Nations, but the League of Nations, which did exist, but was disbanded in 1946. The GA universe is, interestingly, the same universe as that of Evil Con Carne, inasmuch as the characters meet, briefly, in the episode Chicken Ball Z (a parody of Dragon Ball Z.) In the third season episode Skarred For Life, General Skarr, at least, finally meets the GA characters in what could be seen as a full crossover. The series is famous for its parodies and references, notably Harry Potter and The Wizard of Oz.

The similarities in animation and a single crossover to Evil Con Carne may be due to the fact that before Grim Adventures and Evil Con Carne were seperate shows, they were aired as one show, entitled Grim & Evil.

Characters

Main

  • Billy - His real name is William, as heard in the episode Smarten Up. This kid is very stupid. He is a happy go lucky idiot, basically, that can cause trouble... He has a cat named Milkshakes. Voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz
  • Mandy - This girl is mean to many people, possibly even her parents. She has a dog named Saliva. She has no nose. Voiced by Grey Delisle of Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi fame.
  • Grim - He is the grim reaper who lost a bet to Billy and Mandy. Has a Jamaican accent. Voiced by Greg Eagles.

Occasianal

  • Billy's Parents - Billy's mom hates Grim; she thinks that he turned Billy into a skeleton. Billy's dad looks like the side of the family where Billy's looks, stupidity, and lack of focus came from. They love each other immensely, as Billy's dad had his arm around his wife's shoulder in the episode Whatever Happened to Billy Whatshisname??. Their names are Gladys and Harold, respectively. Billy's dad, Harold, is voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz (deepened slightly), and Billy's mom, Gladys, is voiced by Jennifer Hale.
  • Milkshakes - Milkshakes is Billy's pink cat. He is the most adorable cat on any animated series so far.
  • Saliva - Saliva is Mandy's dog. Rather cute for a hateful girl's pet.
  • Irwin - Irwin is Billy's uncertain friend. Occasionally he shows fear and slight hatred for Billy; this hatred became valid in the episode Scythe for Sale, where Billy continually calls him a dork. He also has a crush on Mandy, and used Grim's scythe (in a Zim-like way) to hypnotize Mandy and make her his obedient love slave. He is voiced by Vanessa Marshall.
  • Pud'N - He is a kid that appears and usually suffers some trauma--or reacts to something as though it were a trauma. Similar to the skool kids seen on Invader Zim.

Minor

  • Nergal - Nergal is evil, he tried to be good, but he failed. He wants friends and companions, and he succeeded once, in making Billy's aunt Sis his wife.
  • Nergal Jr. - Nergal Jr. is Nergal's son, born from Billy's aunt Sis. He can control people, and has even inhabited a a body, permanently.
  • Skarr - Skarr is from the show TGaoB&M was paired up with, Evil Con Carne. He joined the neighborhood in Skarred for Life.
  • Mindy - Mindy is the popular girl. She hates Mandy, Billy, and Grim, calling them "dorks" and "losers".
  • Eris - Greek Goddess of Chaos and Discord, occasionally shows up to cause...chaos and discord. Her voice switrches accents: one minute she talks like a valley girl, and the next she talks like singer Madonna.
  • Nigel Planter - A spoof of Harry Potter, who is in love with Mandy. He got beat up by a one eyed troll because he claimed that he sabotaged Gunderstank House, when Mandy actually did it.
