Golden Gate University is a private university that was founded as the night school arm of the San Francisco YMCA in 1853. It is located in downtown San Francisco, California at 536 Mission St, with satellite locations around the San Francisco Bay Area, in Los Angeles, California and Seattle, Washington. Accredited degree programs can also be taken through Golden Gate's CyberCampus, which permits students to work and study on their own schedules using the Internet. GGU is the fifth largest private university in California.
It offers undergraduate and graduate programs in business, and taxation. Its School of Taxation has earned a reputation as one of the largest and most respected in the nation with specialized internship programs that give students practical, hands-on business experience. It also offers graduate and doctoral programs in law, with advanced degrees in intellectual property, environmental law, taxation, United States Legal Studies, and international law.
There are more than 60,000 living alumni. Prominent alumni include Peter Corroon, mayor of Salt Lake County, Utah.
