Galway Airport (IATA Airport Code: GWY) is located at Carnmore about 4 miles (6.5 km) from Galway city and is managed by Corrib Airport Limited. The airport has doubled its passenger throughput since 1998 and is now approaching 200,000 each year. It has over 22,000 traffic movements each year.
Aer Arann launched a service to London Luton in September 2002 and to Manchester in June 2003 (over 25,000 pasengers used the service in its first year of operation). In December 2003 they launched a service to Edinburgh and in January 2004 announced a new service to Birmingham. Aer Arann announced a service to Lorient in France in May 2004, the first scheduled connection to Europe from Galway.
In March 2004 British Airways announced a Glasgow service through their franchise partner Loganair.
The only scheduled services are operated by Aer Arann and British Airways.
In recent years there has been an increase in the volume of private charters, Netjets being one of the more notable frequent visitors.
Galway Flying Club is located at the airport along with many privately owned aircraft. A helicopter training school is also located nearby.
