Eevee

Eevee is an extremely rare and unique Pokémon. Depending on the stimuli, this Pokémon may evolve into one of many forms due to its irregular genetic code. A Fire Stone, Thunder Stone, or Water Stone's radiation will evolve Eevee into Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon, respectively.

Not only does stone radiation affect this Pokémon, so does its surroundings. If an Eevee is very tame, very happy with its trainer, its irregular DNA will cause it to transform. If the sun is up, the evolution will be into Espeon. If the sun is down, then Eevee will evolve into Umbreon.

Shiny color

Eevee's main body turns to silver.

For Vaporeon, the normally blue parts of its body become purplish.

For Jolteon, the area on its body that is normally yellow turns light green.

For Flareon, the area on its body that is normally red turns brown.

For Espeon, the area on its body that is normally purple turns light green.

Finally, for Umbreon, the area on its body that is normally yellow-orange turns light blue.

Name origin

"Eevee" is the pronunciation of "EV", an abbreviation for the word "evolution", referring to Eevee's ability to evolve into numerous varieties of forms (five). It might also be a pun, this Pokémon is the eve of an Eon.

If one splits up the name, one gets "vapor" and "eon". Vapor probably refers to the fact that Vaporeon can merge with water; gaseous water is known as water vapor.

If one splits up the name, one gets "jolt" and "eon.". In France it is called Voltali. In Germany it is called Blitza. In many other countries it is known by its English name: Jolteon.

If one splits up the name, one gets "flare" and "eon."

If one splits up the name, one gets "ESP" and "eon." ESP is an acronym for Extrasensory Perception, that outside of normal sensory activity, as in telepathy and clairvoyance.

If one splits up the name, one gets "umbra" and "eon." An umbra is a shadow or shade. (The word umbrella is related to this word.)

The common part, "Eon", is hazy, but it might refer to the fact that Eevee is in another "stage," or era of its life.

Availability

The only place to find an Eevee in the Red, Blue, Yellow, Fire Red, and Leaf Green games is in Celadon City, at the top of the Game Freak building. Only one may be found per game.

In Gold, Silver and Crystal, Bill gives you one he found while fixing the time machine, which allowed you to trade with the Red, Blue and Yellow games. You were also able to win more Eevees at the game corner for 6666 coins.

In Pokémon Colosseum, you start with an Espeon and an Umbreon (which are both rigged to be male, so the player can't breed more Eevees unless they have Fire Red, Leaf Green, or Emerald (for Ditto) or have traded with someone who has one of the aforementioned games.)

In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Eevee is the stater Pokémon.

Physical Descriptions

Vaporeon is a blue Pokémon with fins on its head, a ridge on its back and a mermaid-like tail. According to the Pokédex its fins will quiver when rain is on the way. It can also merge completely with water, because its cells are similar to water molecules.

Vaporeon is an evolution of Eevee, which can be obtained by using a Water Stone on one.

Jolteon is a yellow-furred wolflike Pokémon with white, spiky mane ringing its neck. It's #135 of the original 151 Pokémon.The shiny version of Jolteon in the Gold and Silver games, is darker in coloration. Jolteon is a full Electric type.

Jolteon evolves from Eevee when it is exposed to a Thunderstone. It can only be obtained by evolving its Basic Pokémon form. It learns mainly Electric type attacks, like Thunder and Thundershock, but also a lot of Normal type attacks, like Quick attack and Tackle. Suprisingly, its most notable attack is Pin Missile, a Bug-type attack which Jolteon shoots needles from its spikes. Because this Pokémon mainly relies on its Speed, it is a quick One-Hit-KO-attacker, although its Thunder attack is not very accurate. Because it gets Double Kick, it has an advantage over ground types that are also part rock, which is nice to have in an Electric type.

Flareon is an orange-red fire-type Pokémon with a fire-like tail, collar, and tuft on its head, which are yellow. It can be obtained by using a Fire Stone on Eevee. Its Japanese name is Buusuta. Flareon live in volcanic areas were there is much heat. A Flareon can turn regular air into fire by sucking it into its heated stomach, then throwing it back up as flames.

Flareon can learn attacks like Flamethrower, Fire Spin, Fire Blast, Bite, and many more.

Espeon, the Sun Pokémon, resembles a cat in build and possesses purple fur, a forked tail, and what appears to be a red jewel on its forehead. Espeon made its debut in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. It made is movie debut in the movie Pokemon Heroes. Espeon is one of the starter Pokémon in Pokémon Colosseum, as it comes paired with an Umbreon. Espeon is one of the five evolutions of Eevee, which evolves into Espeon if it is happy during the day. In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, it can also be obtained by using Sun Dust on Eevee.

Umbreon, the Moonlight Pokémon, is somewhat fox-like with black fur, red eyes, and yellow rings on its head, ears, legs, and tail. It first appeared in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver as the only pure Dark type Pokémon in the game. It also appears (with Espeon) as one of the two starter Pokémon in Pokémon Colosseum. Umbreon is one of the five evolutions of Eevee, which it will evolve into if it is happy at night (after 6:00pm). In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, it is obtainable through trading to Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and given love during the day (before 7:00pm). In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, it can also be obtained by using Moon Dust on Eevee.

Ruby/Sapphire: "Vaporeon underwent a spontaneous mutation and grew fins and gills that allow it to live underwater. This Pokémon has the ability to freely control water."

Espeon

Gold: "It uses the fine hairs that cover its body to sense air currents and predict its enemy's actions."

Silver: "By reading air currents, it can predict things such as weather or its foe's next move."

Crystal: "The tip of its forked tail quivers when it is predicting its opponent's next move."

Ruby/Sapphire: "Espeon is extremely loyal to any Trainer it considers to be worthy. It is said that this Pokémon developed its precognitive powers to protect its Trainer from harm."

FireRed/LeafGreen: "By reading air currents, it can predict things such as weather or its foe's next move."

Umbreon

Gold: "When agitated, this Pokémon protects itself by spraying poisonous sweat from its pores."

Silver: "When darkness falls, the rings on the body begin to glow, striking fear in the hearts of anyone nearby."

Crystal: "On the night of a full moon, or when it gets excited, the ring patterns on its body glow yellow."

Ruby/Sapphire: "Umbreon evolved as a result of exposure to the moon's waves. It hides silently in darkness and waits for its foes to make a move. The rings on its body glow when it leaps to attack."

Fire Red: "When darkness falls, the rings on the body begin to glow, striking fear in the hearts of anyone nearby."
