Cosima De Vito (born November 1, 1976), also known simply as Cosima, is an Australian singer, was notable for coming 3rd in the first series of Australian Idol in Australia in 2003.
Cosima generated some controversy when she was forced to quit the Australian Idol competition due to a throat condition at very short notice, in fact on the very episode which would determine who would move to the final two. This caused Network Ten to issue refunds for all votes for that show. Prior to the final episode she was strongly tipped to win the series, just as Ricki-Lee Coulter had been tipped, but failed, to win the second series of Australian Idol in 2004. On the penultimate show, fans noticed that during the performance of "River Deep, Mountain High", Cosima gave a restrained performance unable to maintain hitting her trademark high notes, which proved to be a bad sign for the final.

Cosima grew up in Perth, Western Australia with her Italian family and entered various talent contests while in school. Cosima cited Whitney Houston as being a major influence on her singing style. She then went to university to get a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in finance and banking. One of the few Australian Idol contestants with a tertiary qualification.
Turning to a career in entertainment, she made contact with talent agents who enabled her to travel to Nashville, Tennessee in 2001 to record a demo tape and discuss a recording deal but was turned down by the major record labels because of a lack of fanbase back in Australia.
After doing Australian Idol Cosima flew to Los Angeles to record her debut album with songs penned by songwriter Diane Warren. Her first single "When The War Is Over", a cover of a Cold Chisel ballad was released in Australia on August 9 2004 on her independent label CDV Records, and debuted at #1 in the ARIAnet singles chart ahead of fellow Australian Idol Paulini who came 4th in the competition and Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins (both had also reached #1 before her).
Her self-titled debut album Cosima was released on 11 October 2004. It debut at #2 on the ARIA charts and #1 on the Independent charts.
