Cortlandville is a town located in Cortland County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 7,919.
The Town of Cortlandville surrounds the City of Cortland and is on the western border of the county.

History
The area was first settled in 1792 at Lorings Corners. In 1829 the town was formed from the south part of the Town of Homer. The town was increased by additional land from the Town of Virgil in 1845.
Geography
The Tioughnioga River flows through the town. The west town line is the border of Tompkins County, New York.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 129.2 km² (49.9 mi²). 129.0 km² (49.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.16% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 7,919 people, 3,166 households, and 2,168 families residing in the town. The population density is 61.4/km² (159.0/mi²). There are 3,431 housing units at an average density of 26.6/km² (68.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.93% White, 0.40% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.71% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 1.43% from two or more races. 1.06% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,166 households out of which 29.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.0% are married couples living together, 9.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.5% are non-families. 23.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 2.89.
In the town the population is spread out with 23.2% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 92.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $37,458, and the median income for a family is $46,888. Males have a median income of $31,530 versus $23,984 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,887. 12.6% of the population and 8.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.3% of those under the age of 18 and 6.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
