Corey Clark was a finalist for the second season of American Idol in 2003.
During the competition, it was revealed that Clark had been arrested in 2002 for assaulting his teenage sister and resisting arrest. He ultimately pleaded "no contest" to "obstructing legal process" due to a plea agreement, and was sentenced to six months unsupervised probation and ordered to pay USD$116 in legal costs. Because he had not revealed this information to the American Idol producers, Clark was disqualified from further participation in the competition.
Clark alleged in a book proposal and a May 2005 interview with ABC's Primetime Live that he and Idol judge Paula Abdul had an affair during the second season and that she coached him on how to succeed in the competition. Abdul dismissed Clark's claims as lies, as did the other judges and many of the show's former contestants. Carmen Rasmusen also revealed that while they were both contestants she saw Clark in bed with another contestant whose name she would not reveal.
On the finale episode of the fourth season of American Idol, Fox televised a parody of Corey Clark's claims, in which judge Simon Cowell was alleged to be having an affair with himself. The parody was very close in plot to the Primetime Live investigation. Clark released a statement that the parody offended him, and was an "insult to the intelligence of the viewer".
